Spiral & Spring Cables
A coiled cord has an elastic memory built into it: the cable is wound on a mandrel after jacketing, then set by heat so it returns to its closed length. Conductor stranding has to be chosen for the extension ratio, and the jacket compound for the recovery, otherwise the coil stretches permanently after a few months in service.
